Welcome!

Welcome to this site where I liveblogged the ECG 2009 event (see their website). Just a few points to note:

  • This was a liveblog, so it is not necessarily presented particularly well, but it should capture the atmosphere as I moved through the conference. quality control. I might do some cleanup at some point.
  • Partly this is because I'll be blogging from my mobile using the ShoZu application, which doesn't let you edit your posts. I won't have computer-based internet access at any time during my stay at ECG, so this is the only means I'll have to post. Apart from the lack of a post editor, ShoZu has a couple of other problems:
    • It posts a "posted by ShoZu" logo at the bottom of each post.
    • Perhaps most importantly, it isn't compatible with Blogger Video, meaning that any videos I post will have to be downloaded to view (unless you have some fancy Firefox add-in to view them directly). For these movies, a large movie picture will appear in the post, and you can just click on that to download and view the video.
  • Speaking of videos, they'll probably be quite low quality as I have to transfer them over a mobile network.
  • During ECG 2009 I'll be staying in a building in Llandudno which I'll refer to as headquarters or HQ. I won't reveal the exact location for privacy/security reasons. Suffice to say that we will be sleeping in dormitories and the building has facilities resembling a hostel.
  • I did post to Twitter a little as well, but only really in response to the official Twitter channel. I posted using @ECGconference. ECG does have its own Twitter page.
  • I'm a veteran of Easter People but I haven't been to ECG before, and so any comparisons will be with Easter People 2007 or earlier (meaning I might class things as "new" when they were actually here at ECG '08).

And finally a few of my favourite quotes from the conference:

  • "God is far bigger than any of the boxes we put him in" - Glyn Jones
  • "The opposite of failure isn't risk-free living, it's grace" - Ali Martin
  • "This isn't the end, it's the beginning" - Amy Wyatt

The mass of delegates leave the centre and walk down the promenade on their way to their homes, workplaces, schools, universities and churches. It's been an amazing week. And if you've been following my blog, then thanks for reading! Possibly see you next year!

Sunday 09:00

I've just got dressed. There aren't any seminars today so the morning doesn't start til 11am, but still have to be up early to do some packing and tidying. I imagine lots of others will be in the same boat...

Saturday 21:25

That was quite an interesting session. We were asked to talk in small groups of our doubts and uncertainties. Without actually discussing them, we asked the holy spirit for healing over these. Felt good to get things off my chest! Paul Flavel was saying about how people often feel they are an imposter or pretender in church and are scared of people finding out they have all these doubts. But it's only natural. Anyway right now i'm sitting in the ground level bar and charging up my phone. There are many, many people around waiting for the YFriday gig to start. It's going to end up being quite full, i think.

Phillipa Hanna is playing an unscheduled piece, one of her songs on dealing with doubt that she was inspired to play after hearing Ann's talk.

Saturday 20:10

Ann Morisy is speaking in the Arena tonight. She's talking about how having doubts is a perfectly natural part of faith. Actually it's a bit too theological for me, she's talking about "dialectical logic" and loads of other complex stuff!

Saturday 14:00

You've probably been wondering where i've been today...well the truth is i kind of overslept. Which is hardly surprising when you get kept up til after 1am every night! By the time i woke up there wasn't time to get to the morning celebrations, so i'm still at HQ having just eaten lunch. Still planning to go to Party On The Prom this afternoon though!
